Treasures in Heaven

Article for Ash Wednesday February 18, 2026 Matthew 6:19–21  19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” I have said this before; we put more importance on this life than we do on our real life to come.  That i

The Transfiguration of Our Lord

Article for February 15, 2026 2 Peter 1:16  16 For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. Oh, to be an eyewitness to the coming and life of Jesus Christ.  So many years has passed since one saw Jesus Christ with their own eyes.  But there where eyewitnesses who not only saw Jesus, but they also walked with Jesus and saw the miracles and signs of the one true God

Jesus came to fulfill the Law

Article for Sunday February 8, 2026 Matthew 5:17  17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. Jesus Christ has made Himself known to the world around Him.  Not the whole world but in part that which is the people of God, the Israelites.  We know Israel was brought up on the laws God gave to Moses for His people Israel.  God’s laws are what we know as the Ten Commandments.  The law has certain deman

“Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”

Article for February 1, 2026 Micah 6:8 8 He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? God has told us through His word what is good and right and bad and wrong.  Yet the world wants and thinks it has the right to choose for themselves what is right and what is wrong.  And the people who believe, or say they believe, step aside many times and let the world rule.  Our world

Not by our works, but by HIS righteousness

Article for January 25, 2026 Matthew 4:12–14  12 When [Jesus] heard that John had been arrested, he withdrew into Galilee. 13 And leaving Nazareth he went and lived in Capernaum by the sea, in the territory of Zebulun and Naphtali, 14 so that what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: We know that Jesus was born in Bethlehem and moved to Egypt for a while to escape from Herod who wanted Jesus dead.  Jesus went from Egypt to Nazareth after Herod died and now Jes

“God chose a people and made a covenant”

Article for January 18, 2026 Isaiah 49:1–2 1 Listen to me, O coastlands, and give attention, you peoples from afar. The Lord called me from the womb, from the body of my mother he named my name.  2 He made my mouth like a sharp sword; in the shadow of his hand he hid me; he made me a polished arrow; in his quiver he hid me away. According to the “Peoples Bible Commentary,” this, Isaiah 49:1–7, is a conversation between God the Father and God the Son.  These verses follow what

“Why were you looking for me?”

Article for January 4, 2026 Luke 2:40–42  40 The child [Jesus] grew and became strong, filled with wisdom.  And the favor of God was upon him. 41 Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover. 42 And when he was twelve years old, they went up according to custom. One Hundred percent boy and one hundred percent God.  I would almost bet that Jesus matured faster than any other boy at that time and even in our time.  This is one hundred percent boy, b

If God is for Us, Who Can be Against Us

Article for New Year's Eve, December 31, 2025 Isaiah 30:15–16 15 For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, “In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.”  But you were unwilling, 16 and you said, “No! We will flee upon horses”; therefore you shall flee away; and, “We will ride upon swift steeds”; therefore your pursuers shall be swift.  This is talking about faith or lack of.  Strength comes from faith and with true fai

“Baptized into Righteousness”

Article for January 11, 2026 Matthew 3:15b–17  15b “Let it be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.”   16 And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; 17 and behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” We are celebrating the baptism of Jesus Christ who did n

There is a Time

Article for December 28, 2025 Galatians 4:4–5  4 When the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. We have been reading the Old Testament and have followed mankind from its beginning up to Saul and his successor David from the House of Jesse.  We have witnessed the many sins of mankind from Adam and Eve to Saul, and we know the sins of David will a

God Chooses the Common

Article for Christmas Eve, December 24, 2025 Luke 2:1–3  1 In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. 2 This was the first registration when Quirinius was governor of Syria. 3 And all went to be registered, each to his own town. Ah! Don’t you just love those politicians?  These, like all politicians, come up with more ways to cost people more money.  Taxes were already being collected but efficiency collects more.  Caesar nee

A Promise Made and a Promise Kept

Article for December 21, 2025, fourth Sunday in Advent Luke 2:4–7  4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, 5 to be registered with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. 6And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. 7 And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, bec

The Coming of the Lord is at Hand

Article for Wednesday Dec 17, 2025   James 5:7a  7 Be patient, therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord . Will the Lord really come again?  Is this not something told to us to keep us doing good.  What if He never comes, have we waisted our time believing in some old fairytale?  Many ask and many start to doubt, but I am talking about those who were seeking Jesus to be born.  Though some may not have figured it out that Jesus was going to come as a baby born to a vir

God With Us

Article for December 14, 2025 Matthew 1:24b and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us). For a time and a time God’s first chosen people looked for a savior to come.  This is a story cloned into many fictional odysseys.  A nation looking for a savior and people who try to destroy the savior before salvation can take hold of those who follow the hero of the story.  This (about Jesus the Christ) though is not a story, but a documented history by one and a

Heaven, Don’t miss it for the world

Article for Wednesday December 7, 2025 Advent I saiah 11:1–2  1 There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit.  2 And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord. From Jesse to David and from David the branch to Jesus the Christ.  From the Father to the Son and from the Father and the Son the Holy Spir

Let light shine out of darkness

Article for Sunday December 7, 2025 John 1:1–5  1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. Darkness is equated to sin, and we know that sin carries the penalty of death.  This death we spe

Walk in the Light and be Ready

Article for December 3, 2025 first Wednesday in Advent Romans 13:12–14  12 The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light. 13 Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy. 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires. Put on Christ Jesus as a garment made up

“Preparing for Jesus”

Article for November 30, 2025, first Sunday in Advent John 11:23–24  23 Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” 24 Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day.” How does one prepare for Jesus?  Should you be on your best behavior?  Maybe make sure you are doing a lot to help others?  Make sure you have repented for all your sins?  Maybe memorize the small catechism all over again?  Or maybe we should get into a heavy bibl

Humbly Follow His commands

Article for November 26, 2025, Thanksgiving Deuteronomy 8:1  1 “The whole commandment that I command you today you shall be careful to do, that you may live and multiply, and go in and possess the land that the Lord swore to give to your fathers. Let us take this as a statement made to each of us who fear and love the Lord.  The commands are still the same and are augmented by the great commands given to us by Jesus Christ our Lord to which He tells us to love the Lord our Go

True Forgiveness

Article for November 23, 2025, last Sunday in the church year. Colossians 1:13–14  13 He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Do we understand true repentance, true forgiveness, true redemption, and true salvation?  To some they take these words seriously, to others they are not sure, and to others they are not ready to listen.  These are the true times that w
