Article for Thanksgiving Day 2024
Deuteronomy 8:5–6 5Know then in your heart that, as a man disciplines his son, the Lord your God disciplines you. 6So you shall keep the commandments of the Lord your God by walking in his ways and by fearing him.
Yea, God does discipline us. We might look at all the times we felt God’s discipline and thank Him for His discipline. We also might look at all the time God disciplined us and see if or what we learned from His discipline.
God tells us to fear Him. Some think this is a fear of respect for God. Some might fear God because He can make us suffer or that He might discipline us. We might fear God because we do not want to lose His love for us. Either way, we should fear God, and maybe for all these reasons.
Whether one learns from one’s discipline or not, we should thank our God for loving us enough to teach us, even through His discipline. We know through God’s word that He raised His people Israel, and His people Christians, to be His children. Adopting all people through His only Son our Lord.
Deuteronomy 8:7–9 7For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, flowing out in the valleys and hills, 8a land of wheat and barley, of vines and fig trees and pomegranates, a land of olive trees and honey, 9a land in which you will eat bread without scarcity, in which you will lack nothing, a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills you can dig copper.
Listen, God has brought us to a good land, we call it home, state, and country. God has provided us with food, shelter, and clothing. We have rivers, lakes, valleys, hills, and mountains. God gave us the talents to use many materials to shape them and build many things with them. God gave us the science to further our health, imagination, and exploration. Truly we lack nothing.
Though we are our own stumbling block, Jesus came to save us from ourselves. We truly are lacking nothing when you think about our salvation. Jesus secured our salvation with His death on the cross and resurrection from the grave. Truly we lack nothing.
1 Timothy 2:1–2 1First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, 2for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.
So, we have much to be thankful for, and much to thank our God, our Savior for. We can thank God for getting us through the tough times, the good times, and the times of worry and fear. We can thank God for healings, sending help, and comforting us through our faith, belief, and His Holy Spirit. We can thank God through our prayers and that He hears our prayers. We can thank and praise our God giving Him the glory for the love He has for us.
Deuteronomy 8:10 10And you shall eat and be full, and you shall bless the Lord your God for the good land he has given you.”
We might at times starve, and at times feast, but the food that gives everlasting life is our Lord Jesus Christ who gave His life to pay the ransom and free us from sin and death. Jesus is our salvation, He is our King, and He is our righteousness.
1 Timothy 2:3–4 3This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, 4who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
Amen.
