Colossians 2:6–7 6Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, 7rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.
How does one thank the Lord without knowing all He does for us? Do most or many think God is only for this life on this world? How does one abound in great thankfulness when they think God’s people are imbedded in God’s law? Should we instead walk in the Gospel of our Lord Jesus? Would living the Gospel make us more thankful?
Do you realize that our Lord is saving us for something greater than what we already have? Do you also know how to walk in Jesus Christ? How does one establish their faith in Jesus Christ who does not take the time to know Him. I know, some of you don’t like it when I ask so many questions. But truthfully, one should be imbedded in God’s word to know God’s actions for His people.
We come to know the Lord through two entities. That is, we know the Lord because of His word and because of the Holy Spirit. The word of God tells us our beginning and how we came upon the condition of our sinful nature. Our human nature is not the same as our sinful nature as our humanity is to do what God has planned for us to be. It is our sinful nature that keeps us from being what God has planned for us to truly be.
To walk in Jesus some might say is to not sin and with that thought, none of us walk in Jesus. To walk in Jesus is to strive to be like Jesus, but more so that we walk in His gospel to glorify His death and resurrection.
Jesus died to accomplish what we cannot. We cannot, because of our sinful nature, walk as righteous as our Lord Jesus. However, we should always try to walk in Jesus as He clothed us in His righteousness when He died for our sins.
When we surrender to the knowledge of the gospel of Jesus, we become thankful as we also become humble. This is true when we realize our God is trying everything to save us for the greater portion which comes with the gift of eternal life. Realize the love of God through the gospel.
Colossians 2:8–10 8See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ. 9For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, 10and you have been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority.
Do you not see that the world wants you to feel doom and gloom? Our worldly philosophy says that which keeps you from eternal life is the “new good” to follow. The world is the fake news that says heaven and hell do not exist. We have heard it; everything you want to do is ok, unless you hurt me or those whom I stand for who sin the way I do. What they don’t tell us is that we may or may not find happiness and if we do, our happiness will be short lived. Truthfully, follow the world so you can lose your joy. The world will tell you it loves you for following it while at the same time hate you to your doom and gloom.
There are many that think bad is good and good is bad, and if we make it legal well then it is alright for us to participate in. Many want power and will promise you much to get you to follow them. And we have seen first-hand that almost all who deceive us will continue to deceive us. Making sin legal in man’s law does not make it legal in God’s law. Again, the world wants to steal your joy.
In the end who will be the judge of your eternal existence? Who will only send you to the pit, and promise you everything? Who will send you to everlasting joy and eternal life? I tell you the truth based on God’s word, the world will bring you to destruction, but God will lead you to eternal life.
Colossians 2:11–12 11In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, 12having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead.
Circumcision was for the Hebrew nation (the first chosen) to seal the covenant of God with God. This was a physical circumcision that was missed used as it became only a ceremonial witness to one’s faith. I assure you there are many who were or are circumcised that have turned their back on God. I can also tell you there are those who are not circumcised who turn their back on God. And there are those circumcised and uncircumcised that have greater faith because they are now circumcised through Jesus Christ.
But here it is that the circumcision that all believers have both men and woman is not given to us by the hand of man. Our true circumcision comes from Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit through our baptism. This baptism we receive marks us as God’s children and seals us to the forgiveness that springs up through our baptism and the body and blood of Jesus. In other words, we are cleansed of our sin through baptism and through the body and blood that Jesus gave up on the cross. This is the circumcision for our eternal life and relationship with our God, a new covenant with God by God.
Colossians 2:13–15 13And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, 14by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. 15He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him.
What Jesus has made let no one put asunder. Jesus is Lord and Savior to all who are led to believe. Amen.
