Jesus Saves Us

Isaiah 55:1 1“Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat!  Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. 

In John 7:37, Jesus says if anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink.  Another name for Jesus is water and not just any water but the water that gives life.  Water is a very important commodity needed by all of God’s creatures and mankind too.  Water is also another commodity that mankind has corrupted as our industries have polluted and made some water not suitable for drinking. 

Only Jesus can offer the water that brings life and water that cures thirst, as He explained and offered to the woman at the well.  We now pay for our water, either through township and or bottled water in the stores yet you can get water free still.  Water is in abundance all around us and you can dig a well almost anywhere deep enough and find water underground. Water has become yet another gift from God that we have exploited for the gain of the one who bottles it. 

This almost sounds like socialism, “he who has no money, come and eat!  Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.”  The difference is that when you receive the food of life from Jesus Christ there is no tax that pretends to give you food at no cost to you.  Nothing in this, “World” is free and everything in this “world” comes with a price.  Hidden or in plain sight, there is a price to pay.

Even sin has its price, and the price will be paid and has been paid.  The cost of sin is eternal death, and Jesus paid that price for all on the cross that works death for all who does not repent.  Those who repent make the suffering and death of Jesus meaningful, but the unrepentant does not make the death of Jesus futile.  No, the unrepentant has made their choice fatal.

Isaiah 55:2 Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy?  Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food. 

Oh, that the world offers riches of meaningless wealth.  The one with the most stuff does not win but loses the true riches of heaven.  Not that all who are wealthy are doomed to the bottomless pit, but that those who reach for worldly riches may cripple their sight and prevent themselves from seeing the true wealth of God’s love.

Escaping from reality is not an answer nor is it truly possible as some might think.  We can fog the mind but that only delays the inevitable and even make the journey more unbearable.  But the one who faces their journey and places their journey in the way to Jesus Christ will find comfort in the forgiveness that our Lord died to give us.  

True comfort comes to those who wait and realize that this life is nothing compared to the place Jesus went to prepare for us.  We measure success through material when we should measure success as a product of being saved by our Lord and from our Lord’s love for His creation.

Isaiah 55:3–4 3Incline your ear, and come to me; hear, that your soul may live; and I will make with you an everlasting covenant, my steadfast, sure love for David.  4Behold, I made him a witness to the peoples, a leader and commander for the peoples. 

Why is it we listen to the world who wants us to hate one another instead of listening to Jesus who wants us to love one another?  We should understand that the world has warped the meaning of love.  To this world, love means accepting, tolerating, and affirming all lifestyles and beliefs for God and against God.  I thought loving one another means to help one another reach the goals that God has put in front of us, which to the world means hate.

Isaiah 55:5 Behold, you shall call a nation that you do not know, and a nation that did not know you shall run to you, because of the Lord your God, and of the Holy One of Israel, for he has glorified you.”

And here we are, nations that did not know Israel and some who do not know the Holy One of Israel, that is Jesus Christ.  And now we do know Israel and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  We who are nations apart from Israel seek the Holy One of Israel as we have learned of His death and resurrection that brings out of the slavery of sin and death, forgives us, and now gives us eternal life.  Not that any of us earned even a part of our salvation but that Jesus Christ grafted us into adoption as the called children of God.  Amen.
