Article for Wednesday December 7, 2025 Advent

Isaiah 11:1–2 1There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit.  2And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.

From Jesse to David and from David the branch to Jesus the Christ.  From the Father to the Son and from the Father and the Son the Holy Spirit.  Look at your true leader who is Yahweh Elohim, our God our Lord and savior.  This is the true knowledge that we should seek as it brings us the wisdom of God which surpasses all understanding.

If it comes from God and it surpasses our understanding, then we should through our belief of, and fear in God, take this knowledge in faith like a child.  For we are the children of God adopted through the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Being a child of God should mean that we take everything from God’s word as good and right for our salvation.

It is also the counsel of the Holy Spirit we seek; through Him the might of God is shown.  Though we fear the world sometimes if not always more than God we need to listen to the counsel of the Holy Spirit.  It is this counsel that we can know the outcome of our missed placed fear of the world vs the outcome of fearing the Lord our Savior.

Isaiah 11:3–4 3And his delight shall be in the fear of the Lord.  He shall not judge by what his eyes see,      or decide disputes by what his ears hear, 4but with righteousness he shall judge the poor, and decide with equity for the meek of the earth; and he shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips he shall kill the wicked.

The justice of God comes from His love and wisdom.  We judge by what we see or hear.  God judges by what He knows and sees in our hearts.  What God knows is the why and what God sees is the pouring out of our sometimes-misguided response to what we are feeling.  Acting out our response calls the Holy Spirit to help us come to repentance.  And our repentance for our sin gives God the insight to where our heart is.

God sees us not through eyes alone but through knowledge, wisdom and love.  There are many who are meek and poor in this world and the world plays on their conditions.  This world we live in is a world run by wickedness disguised as something looking for justification for its sins.  The world tries to be fair to everyone yet is never fair to anyone.

The world should look at being afraid of God as God has promised that the wicked will parish with just a word from His mouth.  But the world has turned a blind eye to the wrath of God that approaches faster every day gone by.  The world does not fear God because the world does not know God.

Isaiah 11:5–6 5Righteousness shall be the belt of his waist, and faithfulness the belt of his loins.  6The wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the young goat, and the calf and the lion and the fattened calf together; and a little child shall lead them.

It sounds like heaven that all will be safe, and all that God has created will live together in a beautiful and perfect harmony.  What we deem dangerous will no longer be feared and what we deem meek will lead the big and strong.  The belt of righteousness will be our motto, and it will hold the faithful in Christ’s righteousness.

This is the time when truly all things will work together, and nothing will fear or must fear anything but the Lord our God.  This could be a glimpse of the promised eternal life prepared for us through and by Jesus Christ our Lord.

Isaiah 11:7–8 7The cow and the bear shall graze; their young shall lie down together; and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. 8The nursing child shall play over the hole of the cobra, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the adder’s den.

Well, it looks like there will be children and nursing children at that.  But if the lion eats straw like the ox, does that suggest that we will all be vegetarians?  If we are to be vegetarians, I believe the fruit of the tree of life will taste like heaven.  Whatever we might consume it will be from heaven and will be the best we have ever had.

Isaiah 11:9–10 9They shall not hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain; for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea. 10In that day the root of Jesse, who shall stand as a signal for the peoples—of him shall the nations inquire, and his resting place shall be glorious.

On top of God’s mountain there will be a glorious throne, a resting place for our Lord Christ Jesus.  This is the one who willingly died a gruesome death to save all whom He loves and all whom love Him.  This is the one who suffered and bled for us to adopt us to be His own.  This is the one whom we worship now and forever.  Amen.
