Cursed is the man who trusts in man

Jeremiah 17:5–6 5Thus says the Lord:

“Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, whose heart turns away from the Lord.  6He is like a shrub in the desert and shall not see any good come.  He shall dwell in the parched places of the wilderness, in an uninhabited salt land.

Trust is something that seems to be slipping away as we look at our politicians, world leaders, and world dictators.  Trust is something earned, and especially now it will take a lot of work before we trust anyone again.  Lies come in many other forms too, we either got a pill for that, (it might kill you), or an app for that, (it might kill your phone).

People give up trusting others when their heart is broken, when they have been betrayed, and even when they don’t get their own way.  We live in a world of half-truths, pure lies, and cunning stories.  Yet mankind/womenkind will still trust mankind /womenkind before they will trust God.  Why is this?

The why is because of what I said in the last paragraph, “when they don’t get their own way.”  We trust the lie instead of the truth.  Thinking we will get our own way even when we don’t get our own way.  We don’t put our trust in God because we think God should clean-up the messes we make.  And we think God should be our personnel protector from the consequences of our sins.  We want it, and God should give it to us now, we scream.  Otherwise, there can’t be a God.

We don’t put our trust in God because we do not listen to Him.  For you people who think God does not speak to you, He does through His word.  So, you out there who think God’s word is not the Holy Bible because man told you it was written only by man, and you cannot trust man, well then why do you trust these men who tell you not to trust men.  Maybe you think women are more trustworthy and they told you this?  I doubt it, but hey, I am a man.  Woman is just as cunning if not more than man.

1 Corinthians 15:16–17 16For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised. 17And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile, and you are still in your sins.

If you cannot believe in or trust God’s word, then how can you believe there is a God?  If the word of God is untrustworthy, then how do you know there is a Jesus Christ.  You claim to have faith.  Faith in what?  Yourself?  Yes, if what you say is true then your faith is as futile as our faith, that is, the faith in God of those who believe.

So did Christ die on the cross for our sins or is this just a nice story as some try to get people to believe.  We have a problem Houston, there are people who believe the lie more than they believe the truth.  If you cannot believe the truth, then everything you believe in is futile faith.  That’s scary!

It seems those churches who don’t believe in God’s word are telling us who do believe in God’s word that we are stupid.  I guess this means believers have been stupid from the day of Jesus Christ our Lord until those who are smarter evolved from monkeys.  This too is scary!  I thank God for creation!

You see we all know we need a guide through life and not just something written down.  We need something we can trust, something that we can put our faith into, to lead us towards God.  Without God’s word there is no reason to believe in Him.  With God’s word we have every reason to believe in Him because we know we have a God who keeps His promises.

1 Corinthians 15:18–20 18Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 19If in this life only we have hoped in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied.  20But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.

I had a friend whom I worked with in Midland, Michigan.  My friend did not believe in God, heaven, or hell.  What my friend believed was like Aristotle believed, that when one dies, they become cosmic dust and no longer exist as life.  This too is very scary!

This is a sad thought that we are nothing more than cosmic dust in the end.  This leaves us with no hope.  It kind of goes along with the song “All’s we are, is dust in the wind.”  This truly would give most to believe that we are nothing more than a cosmic freak accident.

NO! we are the created CHILDREN OF GOD!  God is our creator, our Savior Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirt our Sanctifier.  We have a Father in heaven who does not let lies get in the way of His truth.  We have a God who we can trust, we have a God who is accountable for all His promises.  We have a God who tells us He loves us not by just man, but by His own inspired word!  The only word that can be fully trusted.

Jeremiah 17:7–8 7“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord.  8He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.”

We can trust our God who sent His Son to die for our sins, fulfil the laws demands, and populates heaven with those Jesus Christ has saved.  Jesus, willingly died for our salvation, so why would anyone want to dirty God’s word with trusting man over God.  We who believe will share in the glory of God.  Jesus Christ is the glory of God.  And we know through the word of God that He died to take away our sin and give us life eternal with Him.  Amen.
