Believe with Your Heart, confess with your Actions

Romans 10:5–6 5Moses writes about the righteousness that is based on the law, that the person who does the commandments shall live by them. 6But the righteousness based on faith says, “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’” (that is, to bring Christ down)

We love to preach the law.  We can do it so well that we anger people and they run from God.  It is not our calling to make people run away from God but to run towards God.  However, we are good at getting them to run away from God. 

It takes understanding the people we are trying to save with the law and more so that we understand that we lead them towards God better with the gospel.  We need to understand that some in this day and age do not know right from wrong or wrong from right. 

Though sin has always been around since Adam and Eve, it continues to have its heyday.  And sins heydays are coming around more often and ringing louder every day and night.  The law is supposed to deter us from sinning, but instead the law is being rewritten by fools to fool the foolish.  And we just might be “the foolish.”

We love to preach the law, especially when we can point our finger at others.  Most who point their finger at others do it so no one will see them sin, which is as bad those they point their finger at.  Usually, finger pointer’s sin is what they blame others for.  It’s a game and it stinks of lies and deceits.  Even so, all play the game and think they are getting away with it.

The law is always misused, misguided, and misunderstood.  We use it as a weapon instead of using the law as a deterrent.  Some want to either replace the law or abolish it altogether for the rule of chaos.  This is the fault of mankind, if we can find a way to abuse something we will and we do, sadly even the word of God.

Romans 10:9b–10 9b if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.

      I have seen people use the word of God to slash the hearts out of others.  Some use the word of God to slash others so they can feel better about themselves.  There are many who confess their faith with their mouths and fewer who believe in their hearts that Jesus Christ is the risen LORD.

      If you do not believe God raised Jesus from the dead, then your confession of belief will come back empty.  But if you do believe with your heart, you will not just confess with your mouth but also with your actions that speak loudly.  Confession is not just words; it is love for Jesus Christ and realizing the love Jesus Christ has for us.  And confession is realizing the love of Christ we share with one another.

      All we have is Christ and that is more than you even try to imagine.  Christ is truly our all in all that gives us life today and an eternal life tomorrow.  You are not just studying the word of God; you are studying the will and love of God.  It is God’s will that our righteousness is in line with His, and therefore, God gave us Jesus Christ to clothe us in His righteousness.

Romans 10:13–15a 13For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” 14But how are they to call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? 15And how are they to preach unless they are sent?

      How are we to accomplish anything in the name of God if we only have ourselves to count on?  This truly is why God gave us His inspired word.  The word of God is His love inspired by His love for His creations which include you and me.  You think God would lie to us for thousands of years and leave our salvation in the hands of having faith in our own decision making?  By no means.  Put your faith in God not yourself.

      So those who want to silence God’s word has silenced it to some who want and need to hear it.  This is why we have pastors, bible studies, worship, and fellowship, all done in the name and will of God.  We who are sent are not sent by our own choice; we are sent by God.  But in saying this We have no means to boast in our selves as we are no different then those God called before or those God did not call.  No one that is called is worthy of their call nor are they more special than others.  Those who are called are called to a heavy burden to teach and preach the word of God in God’s love to those who listen with closed ears and hearts.  Not that all of you have closed your ears and hearts.

Romans 10:15b–17 As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” 16But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?” 17So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word

I love this verse, but I don’t think my feet are that beautiful.  This to is only because of the clothing of Christ, that my feet might be beautiful.  For as gruesome as it was to see Jesus Christ on the cross dying for our sins, it also had an unmistakable beauty as it is the Christ who died for our sins.  And even more beautiful are the feet of our resurrected Lord that walks the path of salvation.  All that Jesus Christ did was for the Father and for the Creations of God, that is you and me.  Amen.
